HRH The Prince of Wales visits the RCM
In his role as President of the Royal College of Music, HRH The Prince of Wales spent the morning of Thursday 14 May here, when he was treated to performances by star RCM performers, and presented special honours at the College’s annual awards ceremony in the Britten Theatre.
Fellowship of the Royal College of Music (FRCM) was conferred upon the clarinettist and bass clarinettist Michael Harris, the internationally renowned operatic soprano Rosemary Joshua, RCM Head of Strings Mark Messenger, the organist and conductor James O’Donnell, and the musicologist and writer John Tyrrell.
Honorary Membership of the Royal College of Music (HonRCM) was presented to the former head of the RCM graduate school Darla Crispin, the flautist and orchestra manager Trevor Ford, former RCM council member Rosalind Gilmore, NYO Director of Communications James Murphy, RCM Head of Human Resources Sophie Rees, and oboist and Musician’s Answering Service founder Richard Smith.
His Royal Highness also presented the Tagore Gold Medal to two outstanding students who graduated last year – harpist Daniel de-Fry and soprano Ida Falk Winland. They both participated in a concert in the Britten Theatre that also included by a special celebratory performance by the RCM Wind Ensemble of Haydn’s March in E flat Major for the Prince of Wales.
After the ceremony, His Royal Highness moved through to the RCM’s newly transformed Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, where he heard a performance of the trio from Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte, performed by members of the RCM’s international opera school, and was presented to Geoff Richards, Managing Trustee of the Amaryllis Fleming Foundation.
