Special Prize for RCM Singer

Tuesday 30 August 2011

Countertenor and current RCM student Rupert Enticknap has been awarded a special prize at one of Europe's most prestigious singing competitions.

Some 71 singers from 27 countries participated in this year's 2nd International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti, held at the 2011 Innsbruck Festival of Early Music. Founded in 2010 and named for the Italian Baroque composer, this is the only singing competition for baroque opera.

Rupert was awarded the Special Prize of a concert at the Vienna Konzerthaus during the 2012 Vienna "Resonanzen" Festival. This is a particular noteworthy achievement given that the 24-year-old was one of the youngest singers of the competition.

A student of Russell Smythe, Rupert has just completed study on the RCM Masters programme, and will be entering the RCM International Opera School. Congratulations to him from all at the RCM.
