2016 City Music Foundation Artists

Tuesday 25 October 2016

Two RCM alumni have been selected as 2016 City Music Foundation Artists following a rigorous and competitive audition process.

Pianist Joseph Houston and violist Richard Jones have been selected to join the prestigious CMF Artist Programme, through which they will receive expert advice, guidance and support to help them to build successful careers in music. As well as undertaking a series of workshops and mentoring sessions across core business areas, Joseph and Richard will work with industry leaders to develop and implement a bespoke project based on their own artistic and professional needs.

Following his studies at the RCM, Joseph has developed a diverse career with a focus in contemporary and experimental music, leading to premiere performances of solo piano works by Colin Matthews, Christian Mason, Michael Zev Gordon, Martin Suckling, Charlotte Bray, Thomas Simaku and Simon Holt.

Since graduating from the RCM, Richard has found great success as a member of the Ligeti Quartet, with whom he has been selected a CMF Artist. The quartet is dedicated to performing modern and contemporary music and combines performances at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, St James’s Piccadilly, the Pablo Casals Festival, Musik 21 Nachwuchsfestival and ‘HellHot!’ New Music Festival in Hong Kong with appearances alongside musicians such as Wadada Leo Smith, Shabaka Hutchings, Laura Jurd, Meilyr Jones and You Are Wolf.

Joseph and Richard join other current and recent CMF Artists who have graduated from the RCM, including violinist Gemma Sharples and pianists Dinara Klinton, Maxim Stsura and Samson Tsoy.
