New Opportunity for String Quartets

Thursday 13 March 2014

The Royal College of Music is launching a new Artist Diploma in Chamber Music from September 2014.

The new Artist Diploma (ArtDip) in Chamber Music offers the opportunity for a pre-formed chamber ensemble – a string quartet in 2014/15 - to engage in one year of concentrated study.

The programme encourages the development of ensemble skills and repertoire knowledge through a variety of different disciplines, both traditional and more exploratory, including improvisation, harmonic and structural awareness.

Key aspects of the programme include a bespoke chamber music programme delivered by RCM professors and visiting artists; access to RCM performance spaces, recording studio facilities and Library; professional and career advice from specialists; performance opportunities; and the chance to work with the RCM’s Quartet in Association.

RCM Artist Diploma Programmes represent the highest level of non research-based postgraduate study. Offered in Opera, Performance, Chamber Music and Composition, the courses are aimed at highly talented musicians wishing to hone their skills by working intensively on particular areas of their artistic development.

Existing string quartets are now invited to apply for the inaugural year of the ArtDip in Chamber Music, commencing in September 2014. For details of requirements and how to apply visit the RCM website.
