Chappell Medal Success for Veniamin

Pianist Veniamin Zhukov has won the Royal College of Music’s Chappell Medal competition 2017.

The Russian pianist claimed the Chappell Medal and first prize in the RCM’s most prestigious piano competition with his recital of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata no 29 in B flat major.

Other prize winners were Arina Lazgiian (Hopkinson Gold Medal and second prize) and Victor Maslov (Hopkinson Silver Medal and third prize, and the Esther Fisher prize for the best Undergraduate performer).

We were delighted to welcome world-renowned pianists Rustem Hayroudinoff (Chair), Tessa Nicholson and Francisco Cruz Plaza to adjudicate the Final, which took place on Friday 24 February.

Audiences have the chance to see both Veniamin Zhukov and Victor Maslov performing in in our free To the New World all-day keyboard marathon on Sunday 12 March, part of our America Calls! keyboard festival. Find out more at www.rcm.ac.uk/americacalls
