Woodwind Success in Stockholm

Wednesday 25 June 2014

RCM woodwind players have enjoyed success in the Stockholm International Music Competition.

Clarinettist Junnan Sun and saxophonist Linn Persson were awarded first prizes in their respective instrument categories at the competition, which was held at the History Museum in Stockholm from Friday 6 to Monday 9 June.

Junnan and Linn are two of just 19 prizewinners selected from 650 competition entrants by the competition’s jury, which consisted of interpreters and music teachers of international reputation from Sweden, Estonia, Finland, Russia, Germany, Belgium and the USA.

The Stockholm International Music Competition takes place biennially in Stockholm. Its aim is to gather talented young musicians from different countries, providing an international forum for them to meet with like-minded people and giving them the opportunity to play with and for each other. Participants are also offered the opportunity to take part in masterclasses with the competition's jury members.

You can see a video of Junnan Sun preparing for a performance of Mendelssohn's Concert Piece for Clarinet and Basset Horn with fellow RCM musician Christopher Mothersole on the RCM's YouTube channel.
