RCM Summer Events

Wednesday 10 April 2013

Booking is now open for the RCM's summer season: more than 100 events showcasing some of the world’s very best young musical talent.

In the next two weeks alone you can enjoy Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, experience the best of British music for strings, catch up with the next generation of film composers, and discover heartfelt music written in exile.

Later in the season we commemorate Corelli and Poulenc, discover the Sounds and Sweet Airs of music inspired by Shakespeare, and head to Cadogan Hall and Wigmore Hall for chamber music.

For the season’s highlight on 23 May, the RCM Symphony Orchestra take over the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall for a performance of Turangalîla by Olivier Messiaen, whose music we celebrate in a series of concerts throughout the summer. Back at the RCM, orchestral concerts include a dazzling showcase of Symphonic Dances with rising star Ilyich Rivas.

As usual, our masterclass programme features the world’s most celebrated performers, including pianists Stephen Hough and Vladimir Ovchinnikov, guitarist John Williams, soprano Rosemary Joshua and the truly legendary violinist Ida Haendel. And our Grove Forum series explores the life and work of RCM alumnus Benjamin Britten.
