After leaving the RCM, the late Sir John Pritchard invited him to join the Music Staff of Glyndebourne Festival Opera where he remained for seven years. Following this, he joined the Music Staff of the Royal Opera House and subsequently became Acting Chorus Master and Associate Chorus Director, where he worked in collaboration with Abbado, Birtwistle, Böhm, Bonynge, Sir Colin Davis, Delacôte, Dutoit, Gardelli, Giulini, Goodall, Haitink, Carlos Kleiber, Henry Lewis, Muti, Patané, Evelino Pido, Sir Simon Rattle, Sinopoli, Solti, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Thielemann and Zedda.

He has also worked with most of the major opera companies in this country, as well as with the Théatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Northern Ireland Opera, the National Opera Studio, Gothenburg Opera, and the Opera Department of the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music where he was Director of Opera for three years.

He was engaged as studio conductor for the complete filming of all the operas by Gilbert and Sullivan produced by the Brent Walker Film Company. He was conductor of the North-West London Symphony Orchestra for four years where his concerts included Alberto Remedios and Nelly Miricioiu as soloists. Other engagements have included the production of a recording in Prague with Tito Beltran for Silver Screen Records, and four successful series of concerts hosted by Richard Baker and Henry Kelly as part of themed classical music cruises.

He has been Professor of Vocal Repertoire at the Royal College of Music since 1997 and, as Director of Opera at Birmingham Conservatoire, he conducted Mozart's 'Le Nozze di Figaro', Cavalli's 'L'Egisto', and Monteverdi's 'L'Incoronazione di Poppea', as well as three consecutive years of opera scenes.

He has collaborated over the years with many world-famous singers and instrumentalists, including Maria Bayo, Bonaventura Bottone, Paata Burchuladze, Lynne Dawson, Maria Ewing, Julie Kennard, Fiona Kimm, Felicity Lott, Keith Lewis, Ann Murray, Ann-Sophie Mutter, Luciano Pavarotti, Adrianne Pieczonka, Alberto Remedios, Sarah Walker, Paul Whelan, Willard White, Catherine Wyn-Rogers.

He travels extensively and appears regularly in partnership with singers on the concert platform in the UK, Europe, and the Far East.
