RCM scholarships and awards
The RCM is able to support some students with scholarships, thanks to the generosity of charitable trusts, companies, businesses, individual members of the public and legacies.
Any student who auditions in person for a place at the RCM will automatically be considered for a scholarship or study award. You do not need to complete a separate application to be considered for this. Scholarships are offered purely on the merits of your performance at your audition. If you are offered a scholarship or study award you will receive a letter confirming this in your offer pack.
Every scholar is expected to play a full and active role in the life of the college, to act as a good role model for other students, and to be a good ambassador for the RCM.
If the money that pays for your scholarship has been donated by a specific charity, company or individual there may be additional conditions. All recipients of such awards must write to the relevant donors at least once each term. They must also list the award in their biography and attend special events if their donors will be present.
Non-EU students
- In general, scholarships for non-EU students are for tuition fees only (not living costs) and are not given to you directly, but offset against fees.
- A scholarship or study award may be for any amount up to full fees.
- The amount awarded ‘up-front’ in the offer letter is paid each year for the normal duration of the course.
- Some scholars may subsequently apply for extra funding, known as a top-up award, each April. To be eligible, you must have raised enough money to at least match the value of your scholarship from your own funds and still have a funding gap of £1,500 or more. Any top-up award is for one year only. If in subsequent years, however, you can again match the amount of the up-front award, you may once again apply for top-up funding on a year-by-year basis.
