Join us as we celebrate the distinguished career of cellist and RCM alumnus Martin Lovett. For almost 40 years Martin was a member of the Amadeus Quartet, one of the most celebrated quartets of the 20th century.

In this afternoon concert RCM musicians and specially invited guests and friends of the Amadeus Quartet including cellist Raphael Wallfisch come together to perform a selection of works associated with the group such as Britten’s third string quartet - which they premiered in 1976 - and Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen, performed by top violinist Alexander Markov.

Pre-concert talk Daniel Snowman introduces the history of the Amadeus Quartet at 2pm.

DISCOVER MORE: This celebration also marks the gift of a significant collection of Amadeus archive materials to the RCM, donated by Martin Lovett, and assembled over many years by his wife, Dorinde van Oort-Lovett. Materials from this archive and film footage of the quartet will be shown in a free exhibition from 11am–2pm on Sunday 5 March in the Recital Hall.

Tickets: £5
