Orchestral Masterworks: Shostakovich's Symphony no 5

7:00pm | 08 February 2018 | Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall

Martyn Brabbins conductor
RCM Philharmonic

Bertram Wee Severed (world premiere)
Shostakovich Symphony no 5 in D minor op 47

RCM Visiting Professor and English National Opera Music Director Martyn Brabbins leads the RCM Philharmonic through one of Shostakovich’s most popular and debated works.

Composed at a critical time in his career, its first performance was met with enthusiasm for its positive melodies and simple, direct musical language despite underlying hints of satirical messages. Alongside we hear the exciting world premiere of RCM Concerto Competition winner Bertram Wee's Severed.

Supported by the RCM Patrons' Circle

Tickets: £5, £8
