Britten A Midsummer Night's Dream op 64
Enthralling audiences since its first performance over 50 years ago, A Midsummer Night's Dream, composed by alumnus Benjamin Britten, is presented by talented singers from the Royal College of Music.
The much-loved opera is given a fresh look in Liam Steel’s dramatic new production set in the underground world of Weimer Berlin. Emerging from the wreckage of the First World War, the city became a hotbed for decadent revelry and entertainment. It is in this setting that Steel places Oberon and Tytania as King and Queen of the Fairies and the dispute of four lovers which unravels under the mischievous Puck. From the ethereal to the outlandish, Britten’s orchestration brilliantly portrays each dream-like scene with distinctive musical signatures.
Please note that this production may not be suitable for children under the age of 12.
