Sue has a varied working life combining teaching and freelance playing. She currently teaches at both Junior and Senior Departments of the RCM, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trinity Laban (including Natural Horn) and the Purcell School. Around her busy teaching schedule she performs mostly with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the City of London Sinfonia and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
Her specialism in period instruments and historical performance has given her concert work worldwide and she has also recorded extensively. She can be heard as a soloist in Schumann’s Konzertstuck for 4 Horns/O.R.R/Gardiner (Deutsche Grammophon Archiv). For many years, she held the position of Principal Horn with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, the English Baroque Soloists and the Orchestra Revolutionnaire et Romantique whilst also working regularly with other orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Gabrieli Consort.
As a chamber musician she was a member of the Patterson Quintet (now Haffner Winds) and Configure8 and played frequently with the Endymion and the Albion Ensembles.
Sue has given classes and workshops as far afield as Australia (University of Western Australia, Perth) and more locally at the RCM, RAM, GSM, Trinity Laban and for the NYOGB. For many years she tutored at Dartington International Summer School, and is known to make the occasional appearance at NCO and LSSO.
