The John Barry Scholarship for Film Composition
The RCM, in collaboration with Mrs Laurie Barry, has established the John Barry Scholarship for Film Composition, with the aim of helping talented future film composers reach their full potential.
Few composers have enjoyed as much popular success or worldwide influence as John Barry. The winner of five Academy Awards and numerous other honours during his lifetime (1933-2011), he wrote some of the most memorable movie music of our time. In total, he composed and conducted 125 film scores.
Each student chosen for the John Barry Scholarship will study on the RCM's esteemed Composition for Screen course, and receive one-to-one tutoring by leading composers and experts, emphasising a practical approach to composition for screen.
With use of state-of-the-art music recording and production facilities at the RCM Studios, and with frequent visits by eminent industry figures, the RCM provides specialised professional training at the highest international levels.
No student should be denied a Royal College of Music education for want of funds. The John Barry Scholarship for Film Composition will help transform the lives of talented students and equip them to contribute significantly to the musical and film life in Britain and internationally.
