Sarah Andrew

BMus RCM, RCM Teaching Diploma

Sarah studied with Martin Gatt as a foundation scholar at the Royal College of Music, graduating in 1998 with a first class degree, she later became a Junior Fellow of the RCM in 2000.

Sarah has held the positions of Co Principal Bassoon with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Assistant Principal Bassoonist with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, a position that she held until starting a family in 2011.

Sarah now performs as a guest artist and has worked with many world renowned orchestras including the RPO, SCO, Royal Opera House, The London Mozart Players, The Britten Sinfonia, Le Paris Bastille and Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

As a soloist and chamber musician Sarah has given recitals at the Purcell Room, St. Martin in the Fields, the Wigmore Hall, the Bridgewater Hall and St. David’s Hall Cardiff, she has frequently performed live on radio 3 as a soloist and is a prize winner at the European Chamber Music Competition - Le Musique d’Ensemble.

Sarah has also enjoyed performing extensively with the Karalia Trio at many private functions for HRH the Prince of Wales at Highgrove House and the Queen at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

As a teacher Sarah has taught at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music, the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, The National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain and has been a Bassoon teacher at the RCM Junior Department since 2011. Sarah has also worked as a specialist examiner for both the Royal College of Music and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
