Sarah Andrew

BMus RCM, RCM Teaching Diploma

Sarah studied with Martin Gatt as a foundation scholar at the Royal College of Music, graduating in 1998 with a first class degree. During her studies at the RCM Sarah won the Fanny Hughes Prize, the Arthur Somerville Bassoon prize, the Martin Musical Scholarship fund and La Dolce Musica Woodwind Award.

On graduating from the RCM in 1998 Sarah took up the position of Co Principal Bassoon with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and returned to the UK in 2000 as a Junior Fellow of the Royal College of Music. In 2002 Sarah became the Assistant Principal Bassoonist with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, a position that she held until 2011.

Sarah has performed as a guest with many British orchestras including the RPO, RLPO, RSNO, SCO, Halle, Royal Opera House, Mozart Players and the Britten Sinfonia. She also works abroad and has recently toured with Le Paris Bastille and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

As a soloist and chamber musician Sarah has given recitals at the Purcell Room, St. Martin in the Fields, the Wigmore Hall, the Bridgewater Hall and St. David’s Hall Cardiff, she has also performed many times at Highgrove house for HRH the Prince of Wales. She has worked extensively with the Aurora Ensemble and the Haffner Ensemble, highlights of which include radio 3 performances of the Poulenc Trio with Nicholas Daniel, a live broadcast of the Mozart Piano and Wind along side Angela Hewitt, becoming a prize winner at the European Chamber Music Competition Le Musique d’ensemble in 2001 and recording the Auroras debut CD, Groove Merchants in 2002.
