Kathron Sturrock studied at the Royal College of Music with Cyril Smith and Joan Trimble, and then won an Austrian Government scholarship to study with Alfred Brendel in Vienna. Further awards from the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund and the Countess of Munster enabled her to accept an invitation from Rostropovich to study the repertoire for cello and piano with him in Moscow.
She is the only pianist to have twice won the prize for the best accompanist at the Sofia International Opera Competition: after this award she was invited to play for Elisabeth Schwarzkopf's masterclasses throughout Europe.
Her solo career has included a concerto performance at the Proms, and she is in much demand as an ensemble pianist. She is a founder member of the chamber music group 'The Fibonacci Sequence', and has recorded for Hyperion, Chandos, Pickwick, Sain, Gamut, ASV, Naxos and Black Box Records.
She is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 3 CD Review.
