David Kirby's doctoral research  investigates the extensive use of the clarinet, its evolving style and performance history, in the compositions of Francis Poulenc.

An international prize winning clarinettist, David devotes his time to educational work, and has performed in more than five thousand schools on behalf of the Young Person’s Concert Foundation, bringing live performance and demonstrating his love of music to in excess of 25,000 children and young people. His repertoire encompasses the entire classic clarinet repertoire from Brahms to Poulenc as well as introducing audiences to some lesser known gems by composers including Busoni, Gould and La Rocca.
