Susan Milan was a Junior Exhibitioner and Scholar at the RCM, where she studied with John Francis. As a post-graduate of the Guildhall School of Music she studied with Geoffrey Gilbert, as well as attending the Marcel Moyse masterclasses in Switzerland. She was principal flute of the Bournemouth Sinfonietta 1968-72 and of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra 1974-82 before developing her solo career from 1982. She has made many commissions, including concertos by Richard Rodney Bennett and Robert Simpson, and tours worldwide as soloist and recitalist. She records for Chandos and runs an annual masterclass course in Surrey. Ensemble work includes the London Chamber Music Group, The Debussy Ensemble and a recital duo with Ian Brown.
