Since studying at the Royal College of Music, Paul has combined an orchestral career with chamber music and teaching activities. He has specialised on the bass clarinet for many years and have worked with all of the leading London orchestras including the LSO, RPO, Philharmonia and LPO, plus many of the provincial orchestras. In 1997 he was invited to join the London Philharmonic Orchestra as Principal Bass Clarinet, taking over the position previously held by Stephen Trier, with whom he studied. He is a member of the Thurston Clarinet Quartet which, as well as giving recitals and broadcasts for radio and television, has also made two recordings for ASV.
