The Royal College of Music (RCM) is one of the world's greatest conservatoires. Our excellence was recognised by the 2020 QS World University Rankings, in which we ranked as the top institution for performing arts in the UK for the fifth consecutive year, and top in Europe. The RCM also achieved an overall rating of gold for its outstanding teaching and learning provision for undergraduates in the first ever Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
We are seeking to appoint a Composition professor who will support the growth, training and development of students studying composition to enable them to reach their full creative and artistic potential.
The role will mainly comprise teaching principal and second study composers in composition in regular (preferably weekly during term time) one-to-one sessions. There may also be opportunities to be involved in teaching in faculty classes and other composer workshops.
Applicants must be skilled in teaching, coaching and mentoring both one-to-one and in a group teaching environment with demonstrable experience teaching gifted and talented students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level ideally within a Conservatoire or University environment.
We particularly encourage female applicants and applications from Black and ethnically diverse candidates, as these groups are currently underrepresented within professorial roles at the Royal College of Music.
