Vocal Successes

Friday 4 December 2015

From the United Kingdom to Poland, students from the RCM Vocal Faculty and International Opera School continue to find success at home and abroad.

Baritone Julien van Mellaerts was honoured with First Prize at the 2015 Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards in November. Julien claimed the £2,000 prize after impressing the judges at the Wigmore Hall finals.

First prize was also in store for soprano Galina Averina (pictured), who took the honour at the Bampton Classical Opera Young Singers' Competition on 14 November.

RCM vocal students continue to excel in early music, thanks to the fantastic training and opportunities available through Historical Performance. Soprano Rowan Pierce was recently awarded Second Prize at the 3rd International Early Music Vocal Competition, Canticum Gaudium in Poznan. Together with a cash prize Rowan will return to Poznan next year to perform with the Poznan Baroque Orchestra.

Congratulations are also due to tenor Peter Aisher, who won the Schubert Society Singer Prize at the recent London Song Festival Lieder Masterclass. In addition to prize money Peter will give a recital for the London Song Festival 2016 and another for the Schubert Society in February.
