Ariana Kashefi awarded RPS Scholarship

Tuesday 4 June 2013

RCM cellist Ariana Kashefi has been awarded the 2013 Royal Philharmonic Society Julius Isserlis Scholarship.

Ariana was awarded the scholarship following audition, and will receive £20,000 to enable her to study with Professor Bohorquez at the Hans Eisler Music Academy in Berlin.

During her time at the RCM studying with Melissa Phelps, Ariana has won the Anna Shuttleworth Cello prize, has been awarded the Fleming Scholarship and the Henry Wood Award, and has held principal positions with many of the RCM orchestras.

This year the Royal Philharmonic Society, celebrating its 200th anniversary, is distributing over £81,000 to young composers and performers though its Young Musicians Programme, helping to develop the next generation of outstanding musical talent with practical and creative support tailored to individual needs. The RPS Julius Isserlis Scholarship fund was bequeathed by Cecilia Helen Northcote in the name of the Russian pianist, composer and teacher, and is almost unique in offering young musicians the chance to benefit from the experience of studying in a different country.
