City Music Foundation Awards

Tuesday 1 October 2013

RCM violinist Mari Poll and folk group Tir Eolas have enjoyed success at the inaugural City Music Foundation Awards.

The RCM musicians are two of just eight talented young soloists and groups who were chosen to be City Music Foundation Artists from more than 50 nominations that were received from conservatoires, arts organisations and venues across the UK. They were both nominated for the awards by Professor Colin Lawson, Director of the RCM, and assessed by a panel consisting of artists and experts from across the music industry.

Managing Director of City Music Foundation Lizzie Allen said: “The quality of the applicants for the inaugural awards was high, which made judging challenging, if very enjoyable. We are delighted to be awarding such a talented and eclectic group of musicians. We look forward to helping them build what I’m sure will be very successful careers in music.”

The City Music Foundation is a new charity established by several City of London-based institutions to support musicians at the start of their professional careers. Each City Music Foundation Artist receives a series of concerts, mentorship from experienced performers and industry experts, plus marketing and PR support.

Mari and Tir Eolas will perform in the City Music Foundation Showcase Concert on Thursday 17 October at Milton Court Concert Hall, Guildhall School of Music & Drama. For more information and to book tickets visit the City Music Foundation website.
