Emily Sun Wins Royal Over-Seas League

Royal College of Music violinist Emily Sun won the Gold Medal at the Royal Over-Seas League Final, held at Cadogan Hall on Wednesday 1 June.
The Australian violinist studies with Itzhak Rashkovsky at the RCM and performed a programme of Debussy and Henryk Wieniawsk to win the coveted prize. She was accompanied by RCM alumna pianist Jennifer Hughes.
Another Australian, pianist and RCM Junior Fellow Chad Vindin, took home the Accompanist's Award.
More than half of all performers in the final were students or alumni of the Royal College of Music, with saxophonist Philip Attard also competing in the prestigious Competition Final.
The event also included performances from the Consone Quartet and the Jacquin Trio, winners of the Ensemble Sections of the competition.
The Consone Quartet, featuring Magdalena Loth-Hill, Agata Daraskaite and George Ross, is the first period string group to win the competition, following the success of RCM period recorder ensemble BLOCK4 in 2014.
The Jacquin Trio, winner of the Ensemble B Section, includes RCM alumna and Junior Department clarinet teacher Jessie Grimes and pianist Charis Hanning.
ROSL ARTS is the arts division of the Royal Over-Seas League, and for over 50 years has developed a diverse portfolio of arts activities in Music, Visual Arts and Literature, devoted to the career development of talented young professional artists and musicians from the UK and the Commonwealth. Recent RCM winners include saxophonist Huw Wiggin (2014) and baritone Morgan Pearse (2013).
