Welcoming Gavin Harrison to the RCM Festival of Percussion

We are delighted to announce the line-up for our fourth annual RCM Festival of Percussion, where for just £10 audiences can hear from the world’s leading drummer and percussionists.

Aimed at percussion fans and percussionists of all ages and level of ability, the RCM Festival of Percussion takes place from 11am until 8pm on Sunday 6 July 2014. Highlights of the nine-hour, fun-packed festival include:

  • A drum clinic from Gavin Harrison, drummer with ‘Porcupine Tree and ‘King Crimson’, and voted one of the top 50 drummers of all time in Modern Drummer magazine
  • A World Cup Tribute featuring Brazilian samba music from Mark Armstrong and the RCM Big Band plus special guest drummers Gavin Harrison, Ralph Salmins and rising stars Lucy Landymore and Max Mills
  • A performance from the timpani and percussion sections of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
  • An introduction to timpani from Nick Woud, Principal Timpanist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra
  • 19-time World Solo Drumming Champion Jim Kilpatrick performing with Red Hocks, the RCM’s very own drumline ensemble
  • Samba Drumming Workshops from RCM Sparks
  • An interactive performance from RCM alumni O Duo
  • Jazz vibes from Anthony Kerr and his trio
  • A mini-festival of some of the country’s top young percussion groups
  • The RCM Trade Fair, featuring representatives of the UK’s leading instrument manufacturers
