Success for Jamal

RCM cellist Jamal Aliyev has been awarded the Muriel Taylor Scholarship 2014.

Jamal won the top prize of £3000 following his outstanding performance in the Competition Final on Wednesday 26 March 2014.

The Muriel Taylor Scholarship for talented young cellists was was initiated in February 1971 by a group of musical friends - Yehudi Menuhin, Maurice Gendron, Ross Pople, the Amadeus Quartet and others - in memory of their colleague, the exceptional teacher Muriel Taylor. Past Scholarship winners include cellists
Raphael Wallfisch, Steven Isserlis, Alexander Baillie, Matthew Barley and Liwei Qin.

Jamal is a Neville Wathen Scholar at the RCM supported by an Amaryllis Fleming Award, Lee Abbey Award and the Hattori Foundation. As an RCM Concerto Competition winner, in March 2014 he performed CPE Bach’s Cello Concerto in A minor with the RCM Classical Orchestra.
