John Copley to direct Die Fledermaus

Wednesday 23 September 2015

We’re thrilled to announce that our International Opera School’s Autumn 2015 production of J Strauss’s Die Fledermaus will be directed by John Copley.

Renowned opera director John Copley CBE has worked at most of the world’s major opera houses, and in 2012 celebrated his 50th anniversary as a director at the Royal Opera House.

The Royal College of Music has been fortunate to welcome John to direct several highly acclaimed RCM International Opera School productions, notably a 2001 production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream which featured budding stars such as Andrew Kennedy and Jonathan Lemalu. Most recently he returned to the RCM’s Britten Theatre to direct talented young singers in a series of well-known Opera Scenes.

John Copley will join internationally renowned opera and theatre designer Tim Reed and award-winning costume designer Prue Handley for this November’s production of Johann Strauss Jr's Die Fledermaus. The opera, a hilarious and extraordinary musical romp, leads us through the misunderstandings and mishaps of an extravagant cast of characters, all brought to life by talented RCM singers and conductor Michael Rosewell.

Die Fledermaus takes place at the RCM’s Britten Theatre in South Kensington, London on 23, 25, 27 & 28 November. General booking opens on Wednesday 30 September, but RCM Friends can book now. Find out more about becoming an RCM Friend on our website.
