NOS places for RCM singers

Thursday 2 April 2015

Two singers from the RCM’s International Opera School have been offered places at the National Opera Studio (NOS) for 2015/16.

Soprano He Wu, originally from China and now studying at the RCM with Amanda Roocroft, and British mezzo-soprano Angela Simkin, studying with Dinah Harris, were selected for the NOS programme by the UK’s leading Opera Companies from hundreds of applicants.

Both singers recently starred in the RCM’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute (He Wu pictured left as the Queen of the Night) and the RCM/London Handel Festival production of Giove in Argo (Angela Simkin pictured right in the role of Iside).

The National Opera Studio provides professional training of the highest quality for singers and repetiteurs who have the potential to become the leading artists of their generation. The training programmes for each artist, which are individually designed to meet their needs and aspirations, are provided by coaches who are the leaders in their disciplines.

Celebrated RCM vocal alumni who all trained with the National Opera Studio include Gerald Finley, Jennifer Johnston, Alfie Boe and Susan McCulloch and, most recently, Katherine Crompton.
