Guidance for 2021 applicants

RCM crest
Applications for 2021 entry opened on Thursday 16 July 2020.
We expect the Royal College of Music’s full range of facilities to be operating as normal by September 2021, with all our exceptional teaching and performance opportunities taking place on our campus in the heart of London. Our brand-new facilities, the result of a £40million investment in our campus, are now open.

We ran two Virtual Open Days on Wednesday 29 July and Thursday 6 August 2020 for prospective applicants for 2021 entry. The events were held online and offered applicants the opportunity to explore our faculties and hear first-hand from professors and students about all aspects of life at the RCM. You can still access all our Virtual Open Day content, including recordings of the live faculty sessions here.

We are currently planning to hold our live London auditions as normal in late November to early December, ensuring that appropriate safety measures are in place in accordance with UK Government guidance at that point in time.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, there will not be any auditions in person for 2021 entry at venues in Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul. The safety of our audition candidates is paramount and the RCM has made this decision in response to the latest guidance from the UK Government and the authorities in the overseas locations. At the current time we are planning for auditions at our remaining overseas venues, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok, to go ahead as normal. In order to deal with the ever-increasing number of overseas applications, we have introduced video screening to ensure that live auditions are available to those with the best chance of being offered a place. We are monitoring local conditions with our overseas venues and if it is not possible to hold or reschedule our overseas auditions, we will assess applicants for entry based on their videos submitted for screening.

Any applicant who is unable to travel to an audition venue will be allowed to submit a video audition for courses due to commence in 2021. This applies to all Principal Study specialisms. All candidates will still automatically be considered for scholarships.

Consultation lessons are still available with many of our professors, usually on an online basis. If you are interested in a consultation lesson, please contact the relevant Faculty. Contact details can be found on the Faculty webpages.
