RCM student playing the piano against a silver background
From symphonic masterworks with our guest artists, to a celebration of one of Britain’s greatest composers – you can enjoy an array of performances this spring at the RCM.

2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of RCM student and professor, Ralph Vaughan Williams. We invite you to celebrate with us and experience some of the composer’s masterpieces, and those of his pupils, performed in the place where he studied and taught. We are delighted to be joined by Sir Antonio Pappano, who conducts the composer’s Fifth Symphony, and Martyn Brabbins, who leads Symphony no 8. You can also discover Vaughan Williams’s lesser-known chamber works, paired with pieces by his students at the RCM, and come and visit the new RCM Museum to see his original manuscript of the Fifth Symphony on display.

This term, we are proud to feature the winner of the 2021 Leeds International Piano Competition, RCM student Alim Beisembayev. Our Symphony Orchestra series continues, with guests Rafael Payare, who conducts Mahler’s Sixth Symphony, and conductor John Wilson for Rachmaninov’s 3rd Symphony. And hear acclaimed musicians working with students in our masterclass series, with guests including RCM Polonsky Visiting Professor of Violin, Maxim Vengerov, and Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt.

For International Women’s Day, we shine a light on the female voices of classical music with Song Plus, showcasing some of today’s most celebrated women composers, and there are two world premieres by current RCM composers in our New Perspectives concert.

Music from the Russian Silver age features in this year’s Keyboard Festival, The Spirit of Scriabin, and the RCM Opera Studio presents a new production of Humperdinck’s ever-popular opera, Hansel and Gretel. Our Chamber Music series continues in our recently opened, state-of-the-art Performance Hall and Studio – and during your visit, do stop at our new café, and take in the beautiful surroundings of the Cotes-Burgan Atrium and 1851 Courtyard.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Royal College of Music.
