Bartók String Quartet no 5 Sz 102 BB 110
Hannah Kendall Vera
Owen Ho New work (world premiere)

The second instalment of our Bartók series explores the fifth, and most virtuosic, of the composer's string quartets.

Written in a largely symmetrical five-movement arch form, the work moves through a fugue, a chorale and a scherzo to reach its blazing conclusion. This evening's concert also contains two contemporary pieces: London-born composer and RCM alumna Hannah Kendall's restless but beautifully crafted composition, Vera, and a new work from composer Owen Ho.
