An Honorary Doctorate for Bryn
On Friday 6 July, the Royal College of Music was delighted to award an Honorary Doctorate to bass-baritone Bryn Terfel. The award was made by the RCM Chairman, Professor Lord Winston, at the RCM’s annual graduation ceremony in the Britten Theatre.
Professor Colin Lawson, Director of the RCM, read out the citation, which opened with the phrase: "Regarded as the world's greatest bass-baritone, Bryn Terfel an artist truly meriting the adjective 'exceptional'" before listing the roles for which Bryn has received international acclaim, and concluding with praising Bryn's deep and heartfelt commitment to Wales, the country of his birth.
