Success for Michael in ROSL Competition

Monday 25 February 2013

RCM violinist Michael Foyle has continued a winning streak by RCM musicians in the prestigious Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition by triumphing in the String Section.

Accompanied by RCM pianists Maria Setiadi and Maksim Shtsura, Michael gave outstanding performances of works by Schubert, Ravel and Lutoslawski to earn the top prize of £5,000.

Michael, who studies at the RCM with Daniel Rowland, has also recently won the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist of the Year competition for which he performed Elgar’s Violin Concerto. He was awarded the First Prize of £800 and the chance to perform with the orchestra in June this year.

Michael’s win in the ROSL Music Competition follows on from the success of RCM baritone Morgan Pearse, who won this year’s Singers Section. Both Michael and Morgan will compete for the Gold Medal and First Prize at the competition final at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in June.
