Olivier Stankiewicz joins the RCM

The Royal College of Music is delighted to welcome Olivier Stankiewicz as professor in the Woodwind Faculty. Olivier has recently been appointed Principal Oboe of the London Symphony Orchestra.
On his appointment Olivier Stankiewicz said: “I am incredibly happy to join the teaching staff at the RCM. I have always wanted to share what I have learnt from my own teachers and use my experience to help others express themselves. I was very excited and inspired during a recent visit to the College and look forward to working with the oboe students on a regular basis.”
Simon Channing, Head of Woodwind,said: “I am delighted that Olivier will be joining the RCM's Woodwind Faculty. He is a truly remarkable player with an obvious passion for teaching. He will be joining an outstanding team of oboe professors and we are all looking forward to welcoming him at the start of the new academic year. He will undoubtedly make a huge contribution to the RCM.”
Olivier is one of the world’s most exciting oboists. Prior to joining the LSO, he performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Toulouse’s Orchestre National du Capitole (ONCT), where he was Principal Oboe, 2011-15.
Outside of his orchestral positions, Olivier has developed an incredibly varied career in which he not only explores, but champions new music. With ONCT Olivier gave the world premiere of Benjamin Attahir’s oboe concerto Nur and, as a founding member of the WARN!NG Collective, he regularly commissions new works and experiments with sound painting and improvisation. In chamber music, Olivier has performed with Thomas Dunfort, Jean Rondeau and Hervé N’Kaoua, and co-founded the Duo Widmung with pianist Alvise Siniva, with whom he is preparing to record a debut CD. An active soloist, Olivier won First Prize at the 10th International Oboe Competition of Japan.
Olivier’s broad artistic scope will undoubtedly be a huge inspiration to students at the Royal College of Music and his appointment further enhances and consolidates the fantastic reputation of the RCM’s Woodwind Faculty.
