Performer, editor, composer and teacher Simon Rowland-Jones has always led a very varied musical life. He was founder violist of the Chilingirian Quartet and made his début solo recital at Carnegie Hall in 1979. Solo recordings include the complete works for viola and piano of Ernest Bloch and Benjamin Dale, a CD of Beethoven, Schubert and Schumann and the Bach Cello Suites, which resulted in Peters Edition publishing his own transcription of the Suites. Simon Rowland-Jones is also editor of the new Peters edition of Haydn’s String Quartets. As a composer his main interest is with string chamber music but has also written a number of works for viola, piano and for voice.
