Neil Tarlton studied at the RCM with Adrian Beers. On leaving the College he played for Scottish and Welsh Operas and Northern Sinfonia. His first job was as principal double-bass with the BBC Welsh Orchestra. On returning to London he joined the Philharmonia and was a founding member of the London Double Bass Ensemble, during the life of which he performed on television and radio and at venues including the South Bank and Wigmore Hall, giving many first performances of double-bass repertoire. He also teaches at the Pimlico Specialist Music Course and is principal bass of the Philharmonia. He has transcribed for bass the Sevcik op 2 School of Bowing Technique.
