Jorge Pinto Ramos

Jorge Ramos was born in 1995, in Braga, Portugal. In July 2014 he won the 1st Prize - Composition Competition for Flutes of the 2ª Academia de Flauta de Verão (PT). In July 2016 he won the 2nd Prize - Composition Competition for Flutes of the 4ª Academia de Flauta de Verão (PT).

In 2017 he won the 10th Prize at the 2017 iMelody International Composition Contest by iMelody Music Club (USA) and an Honorable Mention on NFA's Newly Published Music Competition 2017 - Category: Chamber Works for Flute and Other Instruments by The National Flute Association (USA). During the school year of 2017/2018 he was awarded Best Student at Master’s Degree Level by ESML – Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa & CGD – Caixa Geral de Depósitos.

In 2019 Jorge won an Honorable Mention at Composition Competition Tomar Tomaribando 2019 by Tomarimbando Festival (PT), the Music Award with the work Lesson of the Future at Mostra Nacional de Jovens Criadores 2018 (PT) promoted by Fundação da Juventude, an Honourable Mention at the Prémio Francisco Martins 3rd Edition by Orquestra Clássica do Centro with the work Moving Sources and was appointed Young Composer in Residency at Estúdios Victor Córdon in partnership with CNB – Companhia Nacional de Bailado and TNSC – Teatro Nacional São Carlos. He was also awarded with two research grants by FCT – Fundação para as Ciências e Tecnologias between 2016 and 2018.

Currently, Jorge is conducting his research on the influence of electronics on a composer’s orchestration practice perception as a Doctoral Student at the Royal College of Music under the supervision of Alison Kay, Gilbert Nouno and Diana Salazar. He is funded by the Doctor Knobel Fund Award and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation with an Artistic Improvement in Music Scholarship. He is represented by SPA - Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores.
