Tianyi Xie
Tianyi Xie is a PhD student at the Centre for Performance Science at the Royal College of Music (RCM), supervised by Professor Rosie Perkins and Professor Neta Spiro. Her research explores wellbeing during menopause, with a particular focus on how music may serve as a source of support during this life stage.
Tianyi began her music journey at the age of six learning the piano. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University College London (UCL), where her academic research included age-related diseases and female hormones, as well as quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
She completed a Master of Science in Performance Science at the RCM, with distinction. For her dissertation, Tianyi conducted a cross-sectional survey investigating the potential role of music in supporting mental wellbeing during perimenopause and menopause. The study explored participants’ mental wellbeing, their experiences and perceptions of music engagement during this life transition. Building on this research, she decided to pursue the topic further through her PhD.
