Nicholas Sears

Nicholas Sears has built an international reputation as a mentor, teacher and educator during his distinguished former role as Head of Vocal and Opera at the RCM.  During his tenure he gave masterclasses in the USA, Europe, Australia, Russia, Egypt and the Far East. A member of numerous international competition juries and advisory boards, Nicholas has played a central role in identifying and nurturing generations of exceptionally talented classical performers.

Before joining the RCM in 2007 Nicholas enjoyed a successful operatic, concert and recital career throughout the UK and Europe performing principal roles firstly as a baritone and subsequently, as a tenor.  Having ceased his singing career, he became a Senior Lecturer in Voice at the RNCM before joining Intermusica as a Vocal Artist Manager. 

As a teacher, Nicholas concentrates on efficient, flexible breath management and support, allied to musical expressivity and the encouragement of an individual artistic voice. His depth of understanding as to how to develop and place young singers within a highly demanding and competitive musical profession is renowned.  As a mentor he believes in the significance of identifying appropriate, achievable career opportunities for young singers at the start of their careers.

Nicholas is delighted to return to the RCM and to offer his knowledge, experience and energy to fully support RCM singers and the work of the Vocal and Opera Faculty within a fresh context.
