For the final concert in our Composer in Residence series, the RCM welcomes Ben Gernon to conduct the RCM Symphony Orchestra in Mark-Anthony Turnage’s orchestral works reflecting on artistic muses.

Three Screaming Popes takes inspiration from paintings by Francis Bacon, while Frieze is the composer’s response to a commission for an overture to precede Beethoven’s monumental Ninth Symphony. The viola concerto On Opened Ground takes its title from a collection of poems by Seamus Heaney.
