Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber
Kodály Háry János Suite
From the Scottish tunes inspiring RCM Composition Competition winner, Robert Baird, to the Hungarian melodies permeating Kodály’s suite, this concert is a feast of folk.
Kodály’s Háry János Suite features the cimbalom, with its distinctive resonating sonority, as
we follow the story of a Hungarian soldier and his supposedly heroic deeds. Robert Baird’s
Hearth and Home takes traditional tunes and puts them into a contemporary classical context, warping and weaving them through the orchestra.
