Henze Ragtimes and Habaneras
Step into the vibrant world of brass with a varied programme of music exploring the full range of the brass ensemble.
Opening the concert is Schuller’s powerful symphony in four movements, each representing one characteristic of brass instruments.
In Thea Musgrave’s lyrical work for solo horn, the soloist has freedom to bend the tempo to their will, while Set To by RCM Senior Composition Research Fellow, Mark-Anthony Turnage, is intense and fast-paced, with blues influences and rich harmony.
Infused with American and Cuban dance rhythms, Henze’s energetic Ragtimes and Habaneras rounds off this colourful evening with a flourish.
