Royal College of Music vocalists present a moving programme inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ novel La Dame aux Camélias (1848) which recounts the story of a beautiful Parisian courtesan who falls for an honourable man.
Through songs in French, German, English, and Russian, this showcase explores Dumas’ themes of social judgment, the struggle between passion and duty, tragic love and sacrifice, and includes the story of Violetta, Alfredo and Giorgio from Verdi’s La traviata.
