Induction Week

Induction Week is the first week of the Autumn Term during which the RCM runs an extensive programme of events designed to enable you to acquaint yourself with life at the RCM and get your year off to a good start.

Key events during Induction Week include:

  • New student check-in
  • Faculty introductions
  • Programme/year group meetings
  • Music-making activities
  • Freshers’ Fair
  • A programme of social events run by the RCM Students' Union

The full schedule below contains further details about registration and other important events that take place during induction week. Do take time to check it carefully, noting the sessions relating to you and your programme, which you need to attend. You must attend 'priority' meetings/events if they are relevant to you.

Induction Week sessions and events will allow you to find out who key individuals are and how they can help you, learn about using the resources and facilities available, engage with your programme of study and understand what is expected of you.

Some events are for certain groups of students and some are for everyone.

A small number of induction talks and sessions will be delivered digitally, via the RCM's virtual learning environment learn.rcm, specifically:

  • Information for International students
  • Information for Student Visa holders
  • Introduction to the Creative Careers Centre

You will be able to access this content from Wednesday 6 September.

Induction Week is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow students and settle in to life at the Royal College of Music. The SU will contact you with details of planned social events before you arrive.

One-to-one teaching may commence from Wednesday 13 September. Once you have received confirmation of your professor, you should make arrangements for your lessons directly with them. Very little academic teaching takes place in Induction Week, so you can settle in and become familiar with life at the RCM.
