Carne Junior Fellowship

The Carne Trust Junior Fellow receives an award that makes a substantial contribution to their course fees and living costs. Holders of this award are considered members of the team of junior fellows and will be expected to participate fully in RCM life.

The Carne Trust Junior Fellowship is only available to students on the Artist Diploma (ArtDip) in Performance programme and is held for one year.

All fellows are expected to develop musical and communication skills by undertaking further intensive study, working with students internally and doing all they can to raise the profile of the RCM externally. They play a full and active part in the musical life of the RCM as well as functioning as RCM ambassadors. They have full use of the RCM Library with its wealth of material and work in close contact with the Creative Careers Centre, the RCM’s centre for professional skills and publicity services.

Lucia Rose Mariotti, violin

Lucilla Rose Mariotti Banwell, born in 2001 in Italy, is a violinist who has recently graduated from the Royal College of Music with a Master in Performance degree. She is currently studying at the Royal College of Music in London for an Artist Diploma with Itzhak Rashkovsky.

From a young age, she has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela under the baton of Maestro Rodolfo Saglimbeni, the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Tomáš Netopil, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice, the Francigena Chamber Orchestra, the Strings of Maderna Orchestra, the Florence Symphonietta and the Orchestra Classica di Alessandria, among many other orchestras.

In 2021, she played the Violin Concerto in F major by Thomas Linley Jr. in its premiere performance in Italy. In 2022, she performed as a soloist with the New English Concert Orchestra at the Battle Proms Concerts at Blenheim Palace, Burghley House, Hatfield House, and Highclere Castle in the UK. During her time at the RCM, she performed as a soloist the third movement of Mozart’s Violin Concerto K216 with the RCM Chamber Orchestra in a live-streamed orchestral masterclass with Maxim Vengerov, and also performed as a soloist at the Conductors’ Podium event. Additionally, she has performed Navarra by Sarasate with Maxim Vengerov and other RCM students during a private Gala at RCM, and later with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.

As a recitalist, she has performed at various prestigious venues including the Bloomsbury Festival and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, as well as the Royal Palace of Gödöllő in Hungary, where she gave a world premiere performance of pieces by Alfredo D’Ambrosio recorded live for DVD by Achord Pictures. Other notable performances include Giardini La Mortella in Ischia, Villa Lante in Rome, the Italian Institute of Culture in Budapest as the winner of the Campus delle Arti 2017 Prize, Pitti Palace in Florence, Brera Museum in Milan during EXPO 2015, Piaggio Foundation Museum, and Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall in New York as a prize winner at the New York International Artists Competition, among other performances.

In 2020 and 2023, she participated in the "European Festival of Soloists" project, organised by the Delegation of the European Union, the embassies of EU Member States in Venezuela, and El Sistema as an Italian representative. Some of her performances have been broadcast by the Vatican Radio, Czech Radio, and Venice Classic Radio. Besides being a soloist, Lucilla Rose is also interested in playing chamber music, and in 2023, she was chosen to participate in the International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove in Cornwall.

Lucilla Rose has won numerous national and international competitions, including the 59th Kocian and the Josef Muzika International Violin Competition in the Czech Republic and in Nová Paka respectively. She has also received the ESO 32nd Young Soloist Competition in Eastbourne as well as the St Cecilia Bequest Award for the best performance of a musician under 18, in addition to many other competitions in Italy and abroad. In 2019, she was awarded the "Maura Giorgetti" scholarship by winning the Young Musicians Competition organized by the Filarmonica del Teatro alla Scala. Recently, she has been awarded the first prize at the “Violins & Soul” competition at the Amadeus Festival in Vienna., receiving also a gratuitous 2-year loan of a 1709 Antonio Stradivari violin from the Goh Family Collection.

She is supported by Help Musicians, by the Albert Cooper Music Charitable Trust, and she is a 2023 Boise Scholar. During her Master studies at the RCM, she was an Anne & Brian Wadsworth Scholar as well.
