The Philip Carne Trust Junior Fellowship is only available to students on the Artist Diploma (ArtDip) in Performance programme and is held for one year.
This fellowship offers a bespoke, tailored programme of performance and artistic development opportunities to help launch the most talented instrumental students as soloists and chamber musicians.
All fellows are expected to develop musical and communication skills by undertaking further intensive study, working with students internally and doing all they can to raise the profile of the RCM externally. They play a full and active part in the musical life of the RCM as well as functioning as RCM ambassadors. They have full use of the RCM Library with its wealth of material and work in close contact with the Creative Careers Centre, the RCM’s centre for professional skills and publicity services.
Turkish violinist Deniz Sensoy was named one of Classic FM’s Rising Stars of 2024, awarded the 2024/25 London Symphony Orchestra Conservatoire Scholarship, and selected as a Britten Pears Young Artist. She has received the ‘Future’s Women Stars’ Prize from the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, and the title of ‘Glowing Star of the Year’ from İş Bank. She was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Scholarship to complete her Bachelor’s degree at the Royal College of Music, London. She now pursues her Master’s studies with Alexander Gilman at RCM, where she is supported by a full ABRSM scholarship. She has been selected as a Philip Carne Junior Fellow and will continue her studies on the Artist Diploma programme at RCM from September 2026.
Deniz made her Wigmore Hall debut in 2023, to which she now returns annually. She performed as soloist alongside Maxim Vengerov in celebration of his 40-year stage career at the Royal Albert Hall with the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom she holds a two-year Fellowship beginning in 2025. As a member of the LGT Young Soloists, the world’s most touring youth ensemble, she has appeared as a soloist at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie Luxembourg, and Melbourne Recital Hall, continuing to tour internationally with the ensemble, performing at prestigious venues around the world.
Other festival and concert appearances include the Lerici Music Festival, Cagliari International Music Festival and Südtirol Festival in Italy, Zorlu PSM and Istanbul Atatürk Cultural Center in Turkey, and Morges Music Academy in Switzerland. She has collaborated with Classic FM on a video recording for International Women’s Day at Southbank Centre in London.
She made her orchestral solo debut at the age of eight with the Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra and has since performed with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, İzmir State Symphony Orchestra, Olten Philharmonic Orchestra, among many others. She performed as soloist with the YMSO at Cadogan Hall and with the RCM Symphony Orchestra at Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall in a live-streamed performance. She represented Turkey as concertmaster of the ‘Iguazú en Concierto’ International Youth Symphony Orchestra, performing for an audience of over 5,000 at the UNESCO-organised International Music Festival in Iguazú in 2014. She has worked with distinguished violinists including Maxim Vengerov, Midori Goto, Alina Ibragimova, Dora Schwarzberg, Kolja Blacher, Alexander Markov, Mincho Minchev, Igor Ozim, Andrej Bielow, Daniel Rowland and Esther Yoo, as well as quartets such as the Brodsky Quartet, Quartetto di Cremona, Sacconi Quartet, and Marmen Quartet, through her ensemble, the Fiora Quartet, where she plays first violin. She continues to receive mentorship from the LSO Concertmaster Benjamin Marquise Gilmore as part of the LSO Conservatoire Scholarship scheme.
Deniz currently plays a Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù violin (Cremona, 1732), generously loaned by a private foundation, and a Benjamin Banks violin (Salisbury, 1775), on loan from the RCM. Her studies are also supported by the Contemporary Educational Foundation of Turkey (CEV) and MESA Holding.

The programme of study for junior fellows is determined by the structure of the Artist Diploma in Performance course, which is based on one-to-one provision and practical project work, tailored to your particular career aspirations.

Applicants should already have successfully completed formal studies at a level equivalent to a postgraduate diploma or degree or be completing these studies in the academic year in which the application is made. Applications will be considered from those with equivalent experience.
Applicants need to be able to demonstrate substantial successful experience in their specialism, the motivation and determination to continue intensive studies, and the desire to develop their skills by working regularly with other musicians within and outside the RCM.
All instrumentalists holding an offer of a place on an RCM Artist Diploma after the normal November / December in-person auditions will automatically be considered for one of the Junior Fellowships; no separate application will be needed.
If you are not a UK resident, you must obtain permission to be in the UK from the UK Border Agency in order to hold a fellowship. Students on the Artist Diploma programme at the Royal College of Music are eligible for Student Visas.
