Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

RCM Messages of condolence for The Royal Family

Saturday 17 April 2021

The Royal College of Music (RCM) today shares messages of sympathy and support for The Royal Family, in commemoration of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, on the day of his funeral. The RCM’s Director and Chairman have released the following statements:

'One of the most striking things about the life of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was his extraordinary commitment to charity and to public service. As a College we have seen up close the remarkable record of members of The Royal Family and the selfless work – so often unsung – they do for the civic life of our nation. Our tribute to him is therefore a deeply heartfelt one as we as a College and as a nation mourn with our Patron, HM The Queen, and all the members of his family the loss of a unique life.'

Lord Black of Brentwood
Chairman, Royal College of Music

'All of us at the Royal College of Music send our deepest condolences to The Royal Family following the sad passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. We have been profoundly grateful for Royal patronage ever since our foundation in 1882 and remain proud that Her Majesty The Queen is our Patron and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales our President. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.'

Professor Colin Lawson CBE FRCM
Director, Royal College of Music
