Tuesday 14 April 2026

Discover expertly curated stories, guided descriptions and audio and video presentations exploring more than 500 years of music-making from the Royal College of Music Museum with Bloomberg Connects.

The launch of the RCM Museum on the Bloomberg Connects app allows visitors to dive deeper into a selection of fascinating instruments and items from the museum’s collections. This new collaboration also allows people from all around the world to explore and engage with the RCM Museum’s many treasures from their mobile phones.

Bloomberg Connects is a free digital guide to hundreds of cultural organisations around the world that makes it easy to access and engage with arts and culture from mobile devices, anytime, anywhere. Participating organisations include botanical gardens, historic houses, outdoor sculpture parks, and world-class museums. Bloomberg Connects features expert commentary, engaging audio content, accessibility features, interactive maps, and is available in over 40 languages through Google Translate.

Among the instruments from the Royal College of Music Museum featuring on the app is the earliest dated guitar (Belchior Dias, Libson, 1581), the earliest known stringed keyboard instrument (clavicytherium, Ulm, c1480) and a remarkable collection of English viols (John Rose, c1590; Henry Jaye, 1619; Richard Meares, c1680; and Barak Norman, 1692 and 1694). Each instrument is presented on the app by a range of audio and video presentations, interviews, guided descriptions and performances which provide unique insights into their histories.

Gabriele Rossi Rognoni, Curator of the Royal College of Music Museum, comments: ‘I am very excited to see the Royal College of Music Museum joining Bloomberg Connects. Musical heritage is a fundamental part of our culture and joining forces with a network of over 1,000 museums will open a new stage of collaborations and partnerships highlighting the importance of music in human life.’

The RCM Museum is free to visit and is open Tuesday–Friday, 10.15am–5.45pm and Saturday–Sunday, 11am–6pm. In addition to the intriguing items on display, the museum hosts a range of talks, performances and other events, as well as free guided tours every Wednesday at 12.30pm.
