Alumni Reunion: 1975-85

Monday 22 September 2014

On Sunday 14 September we were delighted to welcome 250 RCM alumni back to the Royal College of Music for an unforgettable reunion.

With many former students - who all studied at the RCM between 1975 and 1985 - not having seen each other for years, there was lots of catching up to do. The day began in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall as the audience of alumni listened to a welcome speech from Director of the RCM Professor Colin Lawson which outlined life at the RCM today and plans for the future.

After a light buffet and drinks, Head of Keyboard Professor Vanessa Latarche – who studied at the RCM from 1977-1982 – gave an entertaining professor’s view on how the RCM has changed over the years. There were tours of the building after lunch and attendees had the chance to enjoy performances from current RCM students before the celebrations continued down the road at the local pub ‘The Nines’.

Some photos of this hugely enjoyed event can be seen on the RCM's Flickr page.

The overwhelming feedback from attendees was that the RCM should offer more of these reunions, and so in 2015 it will be the turn of the post-1985 cohort. Details will follow in due course, but if you are an alumnus and have not heard from the RCM in a while, please be sure to update your details at www.rcm.ac.uk/alumni.
