RCM Competition Successes

Wednesday 13 March 2013

RCM musicians Jennifer Hughes, Sinead O'Kelly and Ian Tindale have all enjoyed success in recent competitions.

RCM alumna and current RCM Junior Fellow Jennifer Hughes has become the fourth RCM musician to win a prize at this year’s Royal Overseas League Music Competition. She was awarded the Accompanists’ Prize of £5,000 for her performances in both the Wind and Singers’ sections of the competition. Jennifer currently holds the Gilbert and Eileen Edgar Junior Fellow in Piano Accompaniment at the RCM.

Also in the past week, RCM soprano Sinead O'Kelly and pianist Ian Tindale have been awarded First Prize and Accompanists’ Prize, respectively, at the Association of English Singers & Speakers (AESS) Courtney Kenny Award.

In the competition final Sinead and Ian presented a programme on the theme of unrequited love, performing songs by Gurney, Campion, Haydn, Armstrong Gibbs and Britten around the central item of Sylvia Plath's poem 'Jilted'. As well as receiving cash prizes of a combined value of £1500, the duo have been invited to perform at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama on 10 May 2013 - the day of the AESS Patricia Routledge Award final and of the organisation's centenary celebrations.

Congratulations to all three RCM musicians.
