C P E Bach: Spiritual Songs

Friday 25 April 2014

A new CD of C P E Bach’s music recorded by two RCM professors has been released by Toccata Classics.

C P E Bach: Spiritual Songs - sung by German tenor Norbert Meyn accompanied by Terence Charlston on the clavichord, and recorded in the RCM Studios - has been released to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

The religious songs selected for this CD have never been recorded before with their complete texts. The use of the clavichord (CPE Bach’s favourite instrument) underlines the songs’ intimate nature, intended more for private devotional use than for public performance.

Norbert Meyn says “Recording with such a quiet instrument is really challenging and needs an extremely quiet environment, and the RCM Studio with its versatility and good sound insulation was the perfect environment for making the recording. We were very lucky to be able to work with Matt Parkin as producer, who brought his wealth of experience and immaculate attention to detail to the project. We are grateful for the encouragement and enthusiasm from RCM professor Amanda Glauert and for the RCM Research support which made this recording possible.
